About This Project

University of Ballarat Visual & Performing Arts Centre, Ballarat, VIC

$16M

This project integrated the previously scattered buildings of Visual & Performing Arts Centre (VPA), TAFE and Higher Education, into a single campus in the heart of Ballarat. The project revitalised a run-down urban environment, weaving together new and refurbished buildings and public open spaces. The inclusion of student accommodation ensures a ‘lived-in’ quality for the campus.

Two new facilities for VPA provide a 150-seat thrust-stage theatre with tiered seating and flexible theatre space along with movement, acting and music studios; voice practice rooms; and shared technical and multi-media production studios.

Development of Alfred Deakin Place links the campus with the Ballarat Fine Art Gallery and provides a civic setting for bold urban-scale sculpture, outdoor performance facilities, and markets.
