The Brisbane Cricket Ground is the home of AFL, international cricket and soccer in Brisbane. It is also a key venue for major concerts and events. It is affectionately known as ‘The Gabba’, derived from the suburb name Woolloongabba.

This two tier stand with a central area for dining and club entertainment constitutes the cross section. One side of the stand faces the action (football and cricket matches); view lines, proximity to the play and comfortable seating are the notable features.

The steel structure becomes an element for the tectonics of cantilever, guyed masts and backstays. The canopy of fiberglass protects spectators from sub-tropical rain and sun. Its umbrella form, spiky and stick-like, is a deliberate contrast to the concrete plinth of the base and the solid form of the steel elevation.

The Gabba is a significant and iconic venue of inner suburban Brisbane.
