As part of the Living Carlton Housing redevelopment project, Jackson Architecture engaged in the master plan design for Rathdowne Place; an aged care facility located in the Carlton Wellbeing Precinct, redeveloped on previous public housing land. The project encompasses 18 buildings composed over three sites.

The design catered for the client’s vision, involving an innovative model of care whereby the facility is inclusive, home like and non-institutionalised. This was achieved through the careful detailing of domestic fireplaces, artwork, and intimate sitting rooms, creating an atmosphere contrary to that of a typical nursing home.

Resident’s can embrace the stunning undisrupted views from generous balconies, overlooking the neighbouring community park, Melbourne's CBD and even as far as the Dandenong Ranges. This lifestyle-focused facility promotes positive ageing and supports residents in feeling stimulated, cared for and at home.

Rathdowne Place Aged Care Facility - one of three Australian Unity buildings arranged around a new central public park. Providing a visionary and innovative model of care, it has been designed to be inclusive, home like, non-institutionalised or institutionalising. Domestic scale fireplaces, artwork and intimate sitting rooms have been carefully detailed to provide a 5 star hotel like atmosphere as opposed to a typical nursing home.
