The Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre is a holistically responsive design solution to the varied and intricate facets of cancer care. It supports the role of family and friends; and significantly emphasises patient experience and wellbeing.
Pivotal to its design, the facility offers patients and staff continual access and visual connection to the central courtyard which is gently wrapped and nurtured by the building facade. The design of the courtyard promotes wellness through restorative offerings of light, air, distraction and sustainability to both staff and patients of the facility.
Additionally, the courtyard acts as a strong way-finding tool and reference point as it stands central to the new facility and the existing surrounds. It is used by clinical staff for group physiotherapy sessions and by dietitians who use specifically grown herbs and flowers to educate patients and carers.
The building is organised around two strong circulation axes. The intersection of these axes organically culminates in the main entry space.
